A Tree and Its Fruit
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Grow a tree having good fruits,
By its fruit the tree is known;
For it will have strong deep roots,
From the seeds that had been sown.
But of a corrupted tree,
It will yield a rotten fruit;
Birds and squirrels will also flee,
And will have a rotten root.
How can you speak about good,
When you are being evil;
Not righteously as you should,
Doing works of the devil.
For out of the abundance,
Of the heart the mouth will speak;
Good people have obedience,
As they still righteously seek.
But the evil wanting greed,
Looking for evil treasure;
And will endlessly succeed,
For bringing forth his pleasure.
I tell you on Judgment Day,
People will then justify;
Reasons why they disobey,
Christ as Savior they deny.
For you will be justified,
By any thought, word, and deed;
God will know if you have lied,
Condemn you from deceived plead.
