Christian Morals
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Bless those who persecute,
Bless but do not curse them;
They possess rotten fruit,
That the Lord will condemn.
Rejoice with who has joy,
Weep with those who do weep;
Compassion you deploy,
Eases their mind when they sleep.
Live within one accord,
The same mind as others;
Just the same as the Lord,
In treating your brothers.
Avoid being haughty,
Never wise with conceit;
Live pure and not naughty,
Never deceive or cheat.
Pay not evil for wrongs,
But to do honest things;
What righteously belongs,
In the sight that it brings.
For it depends on you,
Live peaceably with all;
Make words and deeds be true,
Regardless big or small.
Yourself never avenge,
Let God deliver wrath;
For the Lord takes revenge,
Evil crossing your path.
If your foe has a thirst,
Give nourishment to drink;
And if hunger is worst,
Give food to help him think.
Do not fight with evil,
Defeat evil with good;
Block works of the devil,
Doing just as you should.
