Fire
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
She is a bird,
Her wings are strong,
The freedom she feels,
As she flies high.
But sometimes,
The wind can be unkind,
Pushing her down,
Clouding her thoughts.
She feels lost.
She's on her way back up,
To the open blue.
But then she remembers,
Spread her wings,
And trust
they'll pull her over.
She is not just a bird,
But a flame burning bright,
Never the same,
Each flicker a moment,
Never to avow.
But always leaving a mark,
Like a tattoo,
A testament to the fire,
Burning afresh.
And so she rises,
With wings and flames too,
A phoenix reborn,
Redefined and authentic.
A symbol of strength,
And peace of mind,
In this life,
We leave it all abaft,
Only to rise again,
Stronger and true,
Like a bird,
A flame,
And a phoenix too.
