Maya Angelou
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
Maya, with words like poetry,
Spoke of pain and triumph,
Of hope and reality,
Of the strength to survive.
She had a voice like no other,
Her stories gave power to the oppressed,
Reflecting on the past,
Her wisdom helped us reflect on ourselves.
With each verse and chapter,
Maya gave us a glimpse into her life,
No story was too small,
The details added up to a grand gift.
Through her words, Maya empowered women,
Inspiring them all to aspire,
To be the best versions of themselves,
To rise up from the ashes of oppression.
Maya may be gone,
But her words are eternal,
Her legacy forever etched,
Through the ages she'll remain.
