Human Evilness
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Transgression speaks deep in your heart,
No fear of God before your eyes;
Blasphemous sayings you impart,
For righteousness, you do despise.
You hunger for iniquity,
Your eyes are found to be hateful;
Righteousness brings anxiety,
And obnoxiously ungrateful.
Your words are trouble and deceit,
You cease to act wise to do good;
Continually lie and cheat,
Thinking of how the devil would.
You devise mischief on your bed,
Setting in a way as not good;
You reject not what Satan said,
And doing what you never should.
But steadfast love comes from the Lord,
Extends down from Heaven through the clouds;
For He has seen who has deplored,
And sends His judgment to the crowds.
Righteousness is like the mountains,
His judgment is like the great deep;
He saves who drink from the fountains,
Preserves man and beast from their sleep.
