Once There Was A Time
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Once there was a time,
Like...
Maybe a couple of years ago.
When reason to rhyme...
And common sense,
Had been used to defend and protect...
Against ignorant events enacted.
That brought eyebrows above foreheads.
Up high to lift with Jaws to drop.
Leaving eyes and mouths left opened wide.
And questions to ask was a thing of the past.
That time to come,
Has for some stayed to remain.
Only a few attempt not to be amused.
Done to openly express.
As they view from distances to witness,
The majority of the people...
In some kind of line awaiting to find,
Evidence of rumors heard to hear...
About their fictional way of life to live,
Being threatened by reality.
And a truth appearing closer to fear,
That promises to destroy minds deluded.
Including excuses to refuse...
Being mentally abused by fantasies animated.
By cartoon characters.
Advertising the monopolizing of craze.
In movies, widescreen TVs and everywhere,
Anyone goes.
Taught to worship, praise and idolize.
As a culture is compromised,
By children now grown adults.
Hoping with their fingers crossed.
Not to be that selected demographic picked.
To get that rumored knock on their doors.
As the ones,
Forevermore...
Introduced to the shock and horror of it all!
That truth and reality has to offer.
'No.
I refuse. I can't accept this.
NO!
THIS CAN NOT BE TRUE!!'
'Look.
I ain't got time for this dramatized nonsense.
You were selected and picked.
And this message is addressed to you.
Take it, drop it or toss it away.
I could care less.
I don't get paid to be stressed out.'
