Glory unto God Alone
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Lord, not to us, but to Your name,
Give glory to Your steadfast love;
For Your faithfulness we proclaim,
The blessings that flow from above.
Why should Pagans say, “Where is God?”
Knowing that God is in Heaven;
He is very pleased when we laud,
Rewarding with blessings given.
Their idols are silver and gold,
And handcrafted by human hands;
Liquified metal in a mold,
Cools and hardened until it stands.
They have mouths but will never speak,
They have eyes but will never see;
For the truth, they will never seek,
Since mind and heart will never be.
They have ears but will never hear,
They have noses but never smell;
No feelings for being sincere,
No prophecy as to foretell.
They have hands but will never touch,
They have feet but will never walk;
Not able to comfort so much,
No sound from throat to let him talk.
Those who make them become like them.
So does everyone who would trust;
But our Lord God will condemn,
Because their faith has been unjust.
