Christ My Advocate
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
I am writing these things to you,
So that you may stop your sinning;
Your transgression will discontinue,
That Jesus Christ helps your winning.
We have an advocate with God,
Jesus Christ who is the righteous;
Purifies you where you are flawed,
Defending you with His justice.
He is the atonement for sin,
For trespasses of the whole earth;
And allowing us to begin,
In experience a new birth.
By this, we have come to know Him,
In His commandments we abide;
Without Christ, life is feeling grim,
Since He is not by our side.
Whoever says that you know Christ,
But does not keep His commandments;
Is deceived and earthly enticed,
And never received His guidance.
The truth has not been in his heart,
For he is nothing but a liar;
The Father will tell him to depart,
Taken to the lake of fire.
But whoever will keep His Word,
The love of God is perfected;
Abides in all that he has heard,
No commandments are rejected.
Whoever abides ought to walk,
Walking the same way that He will;
Also does listen when you talk,
Through the Scriptures that does instill.
