Unthinkable Is The Greed
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Unthinkable is the existence of greed.
In a material, capitalistic competitive society.
Where love to share, receive and get,
With respect to receive it...
Is the main priority everyone shows.
With this known without exception.
Heard to hear,
From their mouths and lips.
Unthinkable it is,
Selfishness, thoughtlessness and unconcern...
Could possibly survive,
And thrive as it is to gossip...
Focused upon to rumor about.
In a place on a regular basis.
In which people gather together to protest,
For a need of more love.
Not enough to have but more wished to get.
Unthinkable it is to observe and witness.
People homeless, hungry and in need.
Refusing opportunities to them given.
Since, incredible as this may be,
They would rather live in poverty.
Done to do to prefer to leave,
Their wealth and possessions behind them.
It is unthinkable to believe,
Those with wishes and dreams to come true.
Only want it proven they too,
Have grown spoiled and sickened...
By a life to live with all of everything given.
Have chosen to choose,
Destroying what had to them lost value.
For something more challenging like a hug!
'A what?
A hug?
What hug to give and get,
Could be that impressive or important?'
Unthinkable it is, isn't it?
'I...well...I...
Hadn't given that to do much thought.'
How about expressing to someone else,
You appreciate something they did for you.
When was the last time,
You went out of your way....
Just to say thank you?
'I...well...I...
Hadn't given that too much thought either!'
Unthinkable is the greed,
That has made humanity...
A worthless commodity.
'I...
I didn't say that.'
You didn't have to say it.
Unthinkable are the possibilities.
Gone.
Chased to fade away.
Replaced by what today...
Has been made to prioritize.
Have you ever heard the expression,
Money talks, B.S. walks?
'Yes, I have.
And true it is!'
And truth has yet set anyone free.
'Free?
Free from what?'
Greed.
Once tasted.
The craving for more of it is endless.
Eventually worthless becomes,
The chase.
Especially for the ones who have it,
Too embarrassed to ask for a hug!
'WHY ask?
When greed and money to have it,
Can pay for one!'
Unthinkable would be my response.
'Why think at all when money is involved!
It's the patriotic thing to do.'
