Solitude's Embrace
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
I was alone again,
Solace
In solitude's embrace.
Wrapped
In my own skin,
I'd find comfort
In the grace
Of being just
Myself.
When you're alone,
The noise
Of the world retreats,
Leaving a space
Where only echoes
Of your thoughts remain.
No other tendrils
To entangle,
No troubled waters
To navigate,
Just stillness
And quiet,
A haven
From chaos's reign.
Alone,
I could feel the weight
Of my own existence,
Unburdened
By the concerns
Of others'
Expectations.
A sanctuary
From life's tumult,
Where the only problem
Was the internal
Vocation
Of self-discovery.
Loneliness
Granted freedom,
A respite
From worldly rubble
That burdens the heart.
No distractions,
No interference,
Only the mirror's
Unfiltered art,
Reflecting the depths,
The vastness within,
Unhampered
By external ripples,
A crystalline clarity.
And so I treaded
The elusive shores
Of my own solitude,
Where darkness
Birthed light,
And silence
Birthed words.
It was nicer that way,
In the peace
Of my own company,
A place
Where I could stay,
Away from the snares
Of trouble,
And be my own compass,
Guiding me through
The vast expanse
Of my self,
In solitude's embrace.
