The Wake Up Call

Nicolas Simpson 1983 (Illinois)

As I dream the night away,
Sleeping on a bed full of hay,
I hear people calling my name,
Like some type of game,
The noise gets louder and louder,
I dream of my favorite soup New England Clam Chowder,
As I'm dreaming,
I listen carefully to the sounds,
As people make their rounds,
They scream and shout,
Out loud as they scream,
A large and long beam,
Comes crashing down fast,
I woke up at last,
Another one falls down,
That's when I frown,
As I get up from the bang,
I hear nothing but a rang,
Loud noise is what I heard,
Waking me up that way is upsurd,
I don't sleep in the house,
I sleep in the barn because of a mouse,
I'm not scared of the mouse,
My house sprayed and traps inside,
So I took myself for a little ride,
Cutting cost in the barn,
Cats are playing with a ball of yarn,
My family said it was safe to go back in,
I turn the corner and WACK,
I  got hit in the face with a piece of wood,
I turned into that .....
