Unpacked Baggage
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Carrying old chips on aging shoulders,
Can over time...
Bend a back with a head to lower down.
Closer to the ground,
Than ever before when a pettiness began...
An argument to start for nothing more,
But attention to get to wish wanted to receive.
Ignorance committed to hold onto,
Will decay a mind of using common sense.
The proof and evidence is everywhere.
As if gum chewed,
Sticking to the bottom of shoes...
While walking on any urban street.
Pretending to be distant,
From displays of existing stupidity.
Even children are caught up in the act.
Seeking revenge to return upon someone,
With a doing to double the hostility.
Done to perform,
What had been taught to them...
While watching TV.
As they listen to their parents,
Finding this time to comment...
About what they did as kids,
To prevent themselves being victimized.
Telling lies to exaggerate,
The fact where they actually ran to hide.
Too many these days,
Have chips on their shoulders.
And carry baggage packed on their backs.
In need to unpack fiction to delude,
Experiences they did not have.
And the ones who did have lives,
To experience the good, the bad...
The ups and downs,
Compounded by repeated rounds of ugliness.
Today...
Often appear the least likely,
To have had a worry or a problem to face.
Without having all their conflicts,
And obstacles chased away...
As rumors had been told heard to hear.
By those who know nothing more,
Than what they see on TV or at the movies.
To relive and embellish themselves as heros!
What has not happened,
Is an unpacking of baggage carried in minds.
Fictioned to delude living in times,
Their own ancestors, if alive and still living...
Will find it difficult to remember,
Having such experiences to admit existed.
While gathered around a radio.
Barely understanding,
What is said to announce by a broadcaster.
In the year 2023?
Journalists, videotographers and visitors,
In to war zones.
Not only are sending 'live' coverage,
Of these activities
But also interviews with soldiers,
Shooting automatic weapons.
While ducking missiles.
Between watching soccer matches played,
By women representing...
The United States and Viet Nam.
LOLOL...LMAO.
'...AND,
What is that funny,
To bring tears rolling down your eyes.
With a holding your stomach as if in pain?
Do you realize how serious these times are?'
STOP.
STOP IT.
Yeah.
I agree.
They are quite hysterical, aren't they?
You need not remind me.
Help me get up off the ground.
I don't want anyone to think,
I'm not taking what is going on seriously.
Oh...
You have no idea how much I enjoyed that!
