Avoiding Passions
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Flee from youthful passion,
Pursue righteousness, faith, and love;
Having a pure heart for fashion,
With the peace from Heaven above.
Stop having any foolish talk,
Knowing that they will gender strife;
Follow Jesus Christ as you walk,
And start living a holy life.
Servants of the Lord must not fight,
Patiently endure the devil;
Always keep following the light,
And you shall be avoiding evil.
Humbly instruct those who oppose,
Lead them to knowledge of the truth;
Perhaps God will wipe their sorrows,
So that they will not be uncouth.
They may escape the evil snare,
That captured them to do its will;
Once you give the Gospel to share,
It may enlighten to instill.
