Little Girl
A journey that began laced with pain,
She tried to rise above it time and again,
Little girl did all the things she was told,
Little girl died inside at 12 years old.
The fear in her turned into anger and hate,
Little girl lost her whole world, her best mate,
Still she knew that she had to smile to survive,
She never knew how it felt to be truly alive.
As little girl grew she told her true self to hide,
She locked her away safely hidden inside,
Little girl forgotten, drowned out by the numb,
She never imagined what she'd become.
Now after all these years of hating who I see,
I realise it's because that person really wasn't me,
I remembered little girl and I was suddenly aware,
I wondered where I left her, would she still be there?
I looked at her in photo's to give myself a clue,
I found a key along the way, then the door came too,
Little girl was terrified with eyes filled with disgust,
I held her in my arms and overtime I built up trust.
Little girl is with me once again, teaching me,
Who it actually is that I was always meant to be,
Learning how to care for what we keep within,
Finally together, our real life we now begin.
