Politics As Usual
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Habitual are their politics.
Not to rumor but to witness and see.
Twice or more in one decade.
Someone announces a current leader,
Has not delivered for the people deceived.
And with that to announce,
People are told of promises to sell.
They begin to believe they will receive.
Dismissing to reject,
What has been for them done.
Taking effort to have their wishes come.
Not only to hear but to observe and witness.
Yet...
Without their endeavors or support to give,
Their current leader is accused and blamed...
For not delivering,
All their wants and wishes to make and claim.
That no one has come to assist,
The lowering of their utility bills.
To mention nothing about helping them pay,
On debts unpaid.
Credited to a way of life.
Living to impress.
Day in and day out somebody else.
Although someone new,
Out from the blue.
Smiling with a fresh face to replace the old,
Who did more for them...
No one else had proven to do.
Yet they chose to erase,
Accomplishments done...
With the welcoming of innovations.
But this was not enough.
For the people who became,
Accustomed to complaining.
Like everyone else,
Living a life beyond their means.
And together they decided,
Another politician likable and easy...
To entertain them and joke.
Who had not proven any ability,
But collect money and perform for the folks.
Could and would be a better leader.
If impressions kept to keep them made.
And their new leader appeared,
Suitable and fit...
To address their complaints.
With a doing nothing else.
But accept invitations to sit and sip,
On cocktails and handshake.
Dismissing the leadership they once had,
As a duty to do to provide their wishes.
Who not only did the work.
And happy to appear at their doorsteps to ask,
If they were satisfied and pleased...
By the improvements made.
In their own neighborhood!
As a task and not a performance.
Just to grab the attention to have it!
