Le Cyprès

Ce haut cyprès ! c’est là qu’un soir est mort l’Amour,
Dans l’ombre chaude encor de sa rouge journée,
C’est là que, contre lui sa pointe retournée,
Il est tombé, percé de sa flèche à son tour.
O lieu cher et cruel et triste, où, de ce jour,
Mystérieuse et qui ne s’est jamais fanée,
De son sang a fleuri une rose obstinée
Dont semble encor la pourpre attendre son retour.
Et quelquefois, la main dans la main, ma Tristesse
Et moi, qui ne veux plus, hélas ! qu’elle me laisse,
Nous montons jusqu’ici, son pas auprès du mien.
Elle aime cette rose et moi le cyprès sombre :
Elle espère peut-être encor, mais je sais bien
Qu’où l’Amour est tombé ne revient pas son Ombre !
