Levels Up From Depths Below
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Not always is the doing advisable.
To fall in love with someone just met.
Then within weeks,
Before a month has come to pass.
Begin to decide a family.
Is the glue to cement,
A happiness that stays that way...
Between two happily in love,
Kept to keep that sparkle bright...
Remains in their eyes both day and night!
Yet unexpectedly,
Debts to dig...
With credit to get easy to do.
Starts to remove,
The joy of marriage...
Impulsively to jump into.
One day a door us heard to slam.
Followed by a word,
To disbelieve it begins with 'S'.
The next time to hear it,
A bull has been added.
Then 'enough' is attached,
With an 'of this' heard to hear...
Clear as a ringing bell.
Across the street.
And throughout a quiet neighborhood!
'Honey?
When you left early this morning.
Before the Sun began to rise.
Was it you slamming the door?
To awaken me and the kids,
Screaming words I did not recognize?
What happened was that you?'
'Sweetheart.
My dearest love.
To promise I would stay,
Through sickness and health.
Until death do us part.'
'Oh, honey...
I knew that could have not been you.
Was it?!'
'My dearest treasure.
The mother of our adorable,
And much loved children.
How many times will it take,
For the both of us to tell our children.
Not to leave their toys,
Everywhere and all over this place.
Especially in the living room.
When no one can see anything,
That may cause someone to fall.
To then break their neck?
Or...
Fall through the living room window!'
'Thank God that didn't happen.
Something told me I was just dreaming.
How was your day today?
And is that a toy you have in your hands?
Where did you get it?
These kids have enough toys as it is!'
'Baby?'
'Yes, my love?'
'When you convinced me,
It was time to start a family?'
'Yes.
And believe it or not,
I am still thrilled about that decision we made.
How about you?'
'Is it too late to change my my mind?'
'LOL...
Will you stop joking like that.
So glad I am you have kept your humor.
Some days these kids...
Act as if stressing me out is their mission.'
'Sweetheart?
Is it impossible to believe,
They may not be acting!'
'Our children?
Heavens no.
They are very disciplined and respectful.
Whoever comes to visit us,
Leave saying the same thing!'
'And where are they now?'
'Playing on the drums.
And other instruments.
We bought them for Christmas.'
'I don't hear a sound coming up,
Out from the basement.'
'I know.
I told them to do it quietly!'
'YOU KIDS GET YOUR BUTTS IN HERE.
NOW!'
WHEREVER YOU ARE!'
'Honey?
They are just children.
Don't leave them traumatized
'Traumatized?
That's the furthest thing on my mind.
This time!'
