The Woman In Me
I don't think you are my type
But I sleep so much better at night
With you by my side
Hearing your voice echo in my dreams
I don't think I'm where I'm meant to be
Obsessing over the foreign, vivid colors
In your vibrant personality
Losing my way in the mainstream
You're all I think I need
And nothing at all that I want
It's tearing me apart
Your face is haunting me
Can't you see? You're so far away
But you're the only air that I breathe
How did I let you get so close?
Close isn't close enough in ecstasy
Caught between the boy I think you are
And the man I need you to be
I'm still trying to find
The woman in me
About this poem
Discovering who you are can often be found in the form of infatuation. Falling in love with the idea of someone, convincing yourself that you know who they really are, can be intoxicating. Sometimes we find ourselves longing to be with a person we barely know, not knowing that all we really need is to know ourselves better. In the aftermath of clarity, we discover the truth about who we are, what we want, and what we truly need.
