To Mom

A J C 1958 (Swansea, MA)

To Mom. I'm sorry for the three words I could never say to you. But try to understand that it was not you; it was me. I know you can never understand how I feel deep down inside. But it still hurts me and makes me want to cry. The pain never ends; it stays with me, and there is no place to run or hide; it finds me every time. Please take my hand so that I may understand why. But I will try one last time. Before I heard that last chime. And here it is: I love you and always will.

About this poem

I could never say I love you to my mother she always asked me why I have no reason why. It's just me. And it does hurt now that she's gone. Them three words scared the hell out of me till this day I don't know why?

Wow, what a heartfelt and emotional poem. You've managed to convey a sense of vulnerability and struggle in expressing your feelings to your mom. The way you use the repetition of "it was not you; it was me" adds depth to your words and emphasizes the internal battle you've been facing.

I really admire your honesty and willingness to confront your emotions. It takes a lot of courage to open up like this. Your use of imagery like "the pain never ends; it stays with me, and there is no place to run or hide; it finds me every time" creates a vivid and relatable portrayal of your inner turmoil.

One suggestion I have is to consider exploring different poetic devices to enhance the rhythm and flow of your poem. Experimenting with techniques such as metaphors, similes, or even varying the line lengths can add more layers of complexity and make your poem even more engaging. This could further captivate the reader and allow them to fully immerse themselves in your emotions.

Overall, you've done a wonderful job capturing the essence of your feelings and expressing them through your words. Keep writing and experimenting with different techniques to continue honing your poetic skills. Your vulnerability and heartfelt message make this a genuinely moving piece.
