"I'm ok"
Paul Grenek 1977 (San Bernardino)
There's something that stays hanging, and no, I'm not complaining, but, my mind, it keeps on straining, and in my head, it just keeps raining.
I've been to the abyss, a false and hopeless bliss, with all the things that hiss, a jealous, haunting kiss.
I lost myself one day, you see. I broke, inside, I paid that fee. I didn't even try to be, because, my friend, I wasn't me.
Have you ever truly seen, the madness in the evergreen? That forest that cannot be seen, except by you, who keeps it clean.
To stay in there, without connection, live in there, with no deception, set up camp with no intention, to leave this place, have no ascension.
Depression, dear friends, it's sad but it's true, it festers, it lingers, its hanging on you. It eats at your mind, this it will do. it breaks you down mentally, physically too.
I know You must be thinking, "Bro, you must be drinking!" But you don't have an inkling, an eye you won't be blinking.
To minimize your feelings, they say "You know, it could be worse." They'll tell you that you should be glad, you could be in a hearse. To hear your pain, they don't want, so they put you in a purse. They don't really understand, you're living with a curse.
There's many people crying, and in their mind they're dying. My friends, I am not lying, for them, there's only sighing.
I've been there, man, depression severe. It crushed my spirit like paper, year after year. I learned how to fake it, lie to those dear. Try being normal, smile ear to ear.
There's one thing left to say. I ask of you today, to embrace the ones who may, whenever they are asked, respond with "I'm ok".
