UNDERCOVERS

UNDERCOVERS

Tears fall, sobbing in the dark night
Undercovers, hiding, from myself I suppose
For I don't know anymore wrong from right
Laid bare, all my iniquity surely shows
Hands folded in prayer, a rite I mock
Not intending evil, but seeing clear
How quickly I slide off this solid Rock
Whenever temptation dances near

Yes for I'm a soldier gone AWOL
When Temptation shows her face
It's with a rocket's blast I fall
Not even desiring a slower pace
My heart decieved me at every turn
I stumble in the path that leads ahead
To be righteous, oh how I do yearn
And yet I know…I'm already dead

So…I hide, under covers of pride
Lost on purpose but desperate to be found
That my Lord Jesus be ever at my side
Whenever temptation dares come around.
But I can't call, I'm much too low
To raise my voice to so high a Throne!
So I'm my sins, my chains, I wearily go
Carrying my burden, in shame, alone

In my trials, I fall, and scrape my knees
In my sin my blood slowly flows
I continue, battling my many agonies
Found guilty, bitter justice I suppose
You come beside me, I'm no longer alone
Take the Thorns of Guilt off my head
As I watch You press it on Your own
And side by side we wearily tread

You touch my bruises, and my bloody knee
My sins appear on You, as I heal
Beside me we walk, broken wearily
As my stripes on You, Lord of Israel
You lift my cross from my back
And you start to fall to the road
I see that my strength will always lack
To ever carry such a deadly load

You climb the hill, I was destined to climb
And lay down in the exhaustion I had felt
In that instant, Eternity's Clock starts to chime
I see the hammer, and the nails, my heart melt
The hammer lifts, and rings against the nails
It's my sin, that tears Your flesh apart
And with each ring, the nails tell
The story of my weak sinful and forgiven heart

In my place, You're lifted into the sky
Mocked by the crowd, and the Roman squad
Willingly in my place and pain You die
The only Sacrifice worthy of a loving God
In Your death my sins are washed away
And I'm undercovers of mercy and Grace
And in Victory You rise on the third Day
And at last I know You face to face

I once hid undercovers of Pride
Thinking I alone was strong
But God wouldn't let me hide
Showing me I was wrong
And now it's His Grace that shows
That I stand now made Holy and new
Here I stand, by His Grace I suppose
To help take the covers off you
AMEN.

About this poem

Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong,[l because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 53:10-12
