Ben - Old but Gold

Ben - Old but Gold

When I first met you Ben I knew at a glance,
That I would give you a second chance,
A second chance to be a puppy again,
Through sunshine, wind and the inevitable rain.

It was great to see you running on Portrush Strand,
Along the beach playing in the sand,
Sniffing, snoozing and even snoring,
Life with you Ben is never boring.

And here we are sometime later,
And you enjoying your perambulator,
You and I Ben are getting old,
But as they say Ben - Old but Gold!

About this poem

The poem is about my elderly dog Ben who is a 15 year old shih tzu. I adopted him at 11 years old when his previous owner died. I wanted to give him a second chance. For two years he was still very fit and able to run. We had such fun. He can no longer run like he used to. He gets short walks around the block and also uses a doggy pram to see the world as he now has mobility issues. He may be old but he is gold!
