Heritage

I am a Scotsman born.
My heritage forged
By the blood of my ancestors.
Their passion for living,
Still flows hotly in my veins.
They fought for their beliefs
As passionately as they lived.
The fields of Stirling and Falkirk,
Prestonpans and Culloden,
Sanctified by their blood.
Because of them,
The highlands and lochs
Are peaceful once more.
Within me beats a heart
No less proud than theirs,
And rightly so,
For my heritage is rich and full.
When I breathe,
There is always the hint of heather.
My footsteps, always close to the moors.
I close my eyes
And see all that Scotland is.
She remains unchanged in my mind;
Beautiful, wild, and free!
