High Expectations

I’ve had high expectations and big dreams alright
They have spurred me or plagued me all of my life.
Have I been to ambitious in my chosen approach
Have I let down and disappointed those I love most

I’ve come to the realization as I reflect on my past
That what truly matters is not first place - - or last
To be a good person and help all fellow man
Is  a better path followed to God’s promised land

At times, I am weary as I struggle to achieve what God had in store for me
That’s what I believe
So I pray when I’ve traveled to the end of my road
I’ve accomplished all He’s asked of me
and have His hand to hold
