The Other Side

I was sitting on the edge of the lake
when I met someone.

He was staring at the lake,
emotionless,
monotone.

I did not like him
because he was boring,

But I talked to him anyway.

I found things out,
From the emotionless fellow,
thoughtful things and deep things.

The emotionless stare was just an act;
a coping mechanism.

I asked him,
"Are you afraid of anything?"

He answered,
"No."

I asked,
"Are you afraid of death?"

He answered,
"I am not afraid of death.

I am looking forward to it."

"Are you depressed?"
I asked.

"No,"
He said,
"I just cannot wait to see the other side."
