Intrusive Thoughts

now we're together, we're such a cute couple
imagining myself alone is now a struggle
you take us on adventures from here to there
making plans for us together with flair
I can't imagine losing another year of my youth.

comedies are great they induce a giggle
or even a romance to invite a cuddle
i don't like movies with excessive gore
but you took us to the movie Saw
I clenched my jaw so hard I chipped a tooth.

we're rather different with the odd quirk
i'll answer with logic and you a knee jerk
you say whatever, write it off with a shrug
i'll always end the fight with a tight hug
Want my arms around your neck, that's the truth.

looking through the catalog, selecting colors for hours
so then let's go out back and plant you those flowers
hydrangeas are great, they range from pink to blue
with decomposing matter, it takes the darker hue
Watching something go blue is so soothing.

what are you thinking, you'll let me know
your face has every emotion on show
but I'll keep it close, held inside me
buried real deep where no one can see
Ah yes, covered in dirt and patted smooth.

About this poem

This poem was written in two parts: the first 4 lines of each stanza make up one (no capitalization or end-of-line punctuation), and the last line of each stanza the other (correct punctuation used). The first 4 lines show the actions of the subject shown to the world while the last line are his/her inner thoughts. These lines are also a poem on their own with its own rhyme. For convenience sake, here are the last lines together: Intrusive Thoughts ------- I can't imagine losing another year of my youth. I clenched my jaw so hard I chipped a tooth. Want my arms around your neck, that's the truth. Watching something go blue is so soothing. Ah yes, covered in dirt and patted smooth.
