Mother Knows Best

“You and I could be like the Marassas. You are giving up a lifetime with me. Do you understand?”- Breath Eyes Memory (Martine)

I am your mother who gave birth to you and brought you into this world

I am the person who always looked after you and cared for you from a distance without you realizing

I know everything about you and feel everything you feel because we are alike

This is why I said, “You and I we could be like the Marassas”

Because we share a close bond and are like two peas in a pod

So, why must you lie and disappoint me

Why must you leave my side for a no good musician

And why must you ruin your purity for that musician

I know that you have always longed to be free and go explore

But mother knows best and is only trying to protect you

All I ever wanted was for you to become successful and be respected

So why do you treat me as if I committed a sin

Why do you stare at me with such eyes filled with sadness and pain

Is it so wrong for a mother to want to protect and love her child for as long as possible

Is it a crime to always want to be close to her child and comfort them

Because if so I guess you have never considered me as your mother or a close friend

Because if you did you would know that mother knows best
