The one that got away

Every hour I check my voice mail to make sure I have not missed your call.
I rush home from work to check my email only to see no reply from you at all.
At night after I say my prayers I lay down to go to sleep, I hold my pillow tightly because this new feeling of absence is so unique.

In the middle of the night I reach for you only to find you are not there, as the feeling of emptiness grows more prominent I hope and pray that you still care. I've loved you long and hard and no one can ever deny that the love we had was based on more than sex, it was a bond between two minds.

As I go throughout my day I don't rush any moment at all, I just sit around and anticipate the moment you will call. I cherish the memories of us together every second of my day, I sometimes even cry because now you have gone away.

You ran to the arms of another even after I told you I would wait. I promised to do anything it takes to make everything okay; you only smiled, shrugged, laughed, and then quickly turned away. I told you I had never openned up to anyone before because I was too afraid. Even though I was nervous about the outcome I told you everything anyway, you brushed me off and told me I should have tried to reconcile things sooner and that it was too late.

While still trying to get through to your heart I asked you to meet me half way. Yet again I get no response while I sit and wait; I just get that same silent rejection that you know I hate. I can't promise you the world but I can promise you all of me. Praying to God that you will forgive me I still stand strong. I told you that I love you, want you, and need you but you knew that all along.

I sit and think about how things used to be; like spending all of our time together, now it's just me. All alone in this cold dark world my broken heart still beats. Only now it's to a different tune, one that sounds more like defeat. I love you and hold you close to my heart. I hope that soon this feeling of loneliness departs. If you ever feel lost, unloved or alone just remember you will always have a place to call home.
