it's Pride, Baby,!
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
I too like you,
Had been taught to learn...
That which I taught to teach.
Not to earn or yearn,
To seek for me my own reality.
Until curiosity came.
Like a storm.
Leaving my mind in doubt,
Much too long.
More I began to wonder,
Why I felt to feel...
Something wrong was missed.
Not right.
Pieces just did not fit.
What I earlier learned lessons of life,
No one described me,
As an image of it.
Not a picture of me did I see at all.
Although I had been made to believe,
That did not matter.
Since I was among the 'others'.
Them. They. The minority.
And more...
I developed a craving for observation.
With a listening.
To every word I heard.
The tone of them and implication,
Meant.
I too like you,
Had been taught to learn...
That which I taught to teach.
Although...
There is one difference,
Between what you were taught...
And I earned not to teach.
To anyone who looks like me,
From noses turned to look down?
I let it be known...
Whatever it is,
Those pretentious...
Think of themselves?
Subservient to their delusions,
Is not how I stroll.
Boldly.
Wherever it is I go.
"Why?
Why do you choose to be,
So...
Arrogant?"
'Don't confuse my self confidence,
With arrogance.
It's pride, baby!
From head to toe.
Five feet and eleven inches of it.'
"Is that all?
You appear much taller than that!"
'It's the voice.
It adds another foot!
I have often been told.
