Analysis of Who Would I Be
Barbara A Cadogan 1944 (Barbados)
If I were a fly on the wall
Invisible, I could hear and see it all.
Not that I could care less,
A fly is such a pest!
I would rather just be me.
How would it feel to be a dove ?
A symbol of peace and love.
Just to fly and float above,
But really nothing to ponder of.
I would rather just be me.
A lofty pine so I could see
Far above the other tree,
But they would cut me down
And supply the paper mills in town.
I would rather just be me.
To be a rose, beautiful and fragrant,
Long stemmed, graceful and elegant.
This could be a possibility.
But roses fade and die - A liability!
I would rather just be me.
Would I be a horse? Handsome and strong
Flirting with my mare all day long?
A horse is subjected to abuse
From a taskmaster’s overuse.
I would rather just be me.
Just to be content with who I am
Takes no effort, but a plan
I am unique, no one else I’d be.
Secure, determined, it’s plain to see
I would rather just be me.
