Commission
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
The Lord was sitting on His throne,
I saw Him high and lifted up;
His train filled the temple as shown,
While handing to me a cup.
He said it was His blood to drink,
As the seraphim with six wings;
Covered their faces made me think,
Of humbleness that each one brings.
For one called unto another,
Holy, holy, holy the Lord;
As they had turned to each other,
That His glory the earth adored.
The foundations shook at His voice,
As the temple was filled with smoke;
All the angels then did rejoice,
While my thoughts and my lips spoke.
Woe is me! Because I am lost,
I am one with an unclean tongue;
For my sins have caused such a cost,
From impurities that were flung.
Then a seraphim flew unto me,
Puts a burning coal on my tongue;
While the Lord made a decree,
My entire mouth had felt stung.
He said that I was forgiven,
Any guilt is taken away;
My sins purged to enter Heaven,
If I continue to obey.
