Noticeable Change
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
If everyone actually did,
What had been expected of them done to do.
The need to use assumptions...
Allegations and rumors to add spice to gossip,
Will leave many mentally healthier.
With more time to spend,
Minding their own business.
Done to do with less time to claim,
Of not having enough to clean up...
The mess spreading from their backyards,
Throughout entire neighborhoods...
Where they live but seldom are seen,
Doing anything else...
Other than sitting on the front porch.
Talking as loud as they possible can.
About themselves.
And who drives up and down the street.
Instead of looking for a job to contribute,
To the uplifting of the community.
With that to make noticeable change!
If...
They actually did,
Something done to contribute...
A doing to improve the community.
Instead of talking about others.
And what they do not to know them at all.
'Good morning, neighbor?'
'Hold on, just a second.
What did you say?'
'Good morning.
Is it possible you could lower your voice?
My family and I can not hear ourselves,
Praying over Sunday dinner.
Would you like to join us?'
'Oh no.
I was just about to hang up the phone.
And start doing chores inside the house.'
'Will your mouth be left opened or closed?'
'EXCUSE ME?
WILL MY MOUTH BE WHAT!?'
'OH...I am so sorry.
I apologize.
I meant to say door.
Will your door be opened or closed?
I can bring you a plate over in ten minutes.
To enjoy and eat as slow as possible.
The peach cobbler is my favorite.'
'Sounds good.
I'll leave my door open.'
'Please.
But...
If you don't mind,
I'd rather knock.
It will give me the opportunity,
To see something I have not seen in awhile!'
